The Idea

Once upon a time in a far away land known as geek central, back before the invention of Facebook, I met my best friends. Actually that's not strictly true since we met after Facebook was created but before it was available to the public. Since the Fall of 2013 I (Laura) have been going to college in the midwest and since the Fall of 2014 Natasha has been working in Washington DC. Like a lot of friends who don't get to see each other often. Now, since I'm still a college student I obviously still have Spring Break and Natasha, being the hard working generous person she is decided that she was going to fly me out to visit her during that spring break.

With the name of this blog being Laura and Natasha's Mystery Trip you're probably thinking there's no mystery to this trip at all, and you'd be right. However, between when the idea first come to Natasha and when I called with the dates of my Spring Break a month or two later she'd come to a terrible realization. She's a working woman. As such she could bring me to DC but I'd be left alone most of the week and just entertaining myself which defeats the whole purpose of visiting to spend time with her. As such she proposed a long weekend so she would only take Friday and Monday off of work. Of course I agreed.

Once we had finalized the dates we started talking about what we were going to do during this trip or if we wanted to meet somewhere neither of us has ever been. We threw around a couple locations like New York, New Orleans, or Natasha even coming to visit me. Somewhere during the talk of where we would meet we stumbled upon the idea of Natasha not telling me where the flight would be booked to.

What you have to understand is that Natasha and I are those crazy spontaneous people who always have the craziest stories. For instance, during a hot summer day I once picked up Natasha having not eaten anything yet, I think it was about 11am, and so we went out for frozen yogurt, and then went on to eat nothing but every type of ice cream we could think of the whole day. Frozen yogurt, gelato, ice cream shakes, chocolate dipped soft serve, and regular ice cream. There might have been more but either way by the end of it we were both kind of sick to our stomachs but we had a lot of fun with it.

Back to the Mystery Trip. We decided that since we're such awesome people we could have fun anywhere, Natasha was going to book the whole trip: flights, hotel rooms, and whatever else she thought was needed. We hung up and a couple hours later I was told to be at the airport at 4pm on Thursday the 19th of March, 2015. She also told me she wouldn't send me the confirmation number until I got to the airport.

At this point I've been home for just under a week and we've decided to make this a yearly trip. Once a year we would go on a trip together somewhere and one of us would not know where we were going. So every year we're going to switch off who gets to plan the trip and who gets surprised with the end goal being to get someone to the final destination without them knowing where they are.

And so onwards we go into the great unknown!
